Your passwords,
kept at home.

Clef is a password manager that lives on your computer, not in the cloud. Organize your keychains in folders, lock them behind a single master password, and keep working with no internet connection.

Features

Everything you need, nothing you don't

A small, focused window that keeps your keychains tidy and a shortcut away.

Folders & templates

Sort your keys into folders, rename them inline, and save a folder as a template to reuse its structure later.

Instant search

Press ⌘K / Ctrl+K and start typing — Clef filters your keychains by name as you type.

Password generator

Generate a strong random password in one click while creating or editing a keychain.

Self-clearing clipboard

Copy an account name or password in one click. Passwords are erased from the clipboard after 45 seconds.

Backup reminders

A colour-coded banner tells you when your vault needs a backup, and one click saves an encrypted copy.

Encrypted import & export

Move your vault between machines with a password-protected export file.

Auto-lock

Clef locks itself after a period of inactivity, or instantly with ⌘⇧L / Ctrl+Shift+L.

Light & dark mode

Switch themes anytime — Clef looks just as calm at midnight as it does at noon.

English & French

The whole interface is available in English and French.

Security

Built to keep your secrets secret

No servers, no sync, no telemetry. Only you and a master password.

01

One master password

You set it on first launch, with an optional hint. Clef asks for it every time it starts, and you can change it from the settings.

02

AES-256-GCM encryption

Your vault is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key is derived from your master password with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA512 over 600,000 iterations.

03

Offline by design

Clef runs without an internet connection. Your keychains are stored only on your machine — nothing is ever sent anywhere.

04

Signed & hardened builds

Release builds are code-signed and notarized, with Electron hardening fuses and integrity checks enabled.

Backups

Never lose your vault

Because your data lives only on your machine, backups matter. Clef keeps track of your last one and nudges you when it's time. "Back up now" saves a single encrypted file wherever you choose — a USB stick, a NAS or your desktop.

  • 0–14 days You're all set
  • 15–30 days A backup is recommended
  • 30+ days Time to back up now
